Coal Grove council recount expected

It looks as if there will be only one automatic recount in the races in this November’s general election.
On Friday the county board of elections conducted the official canvas, but is not releasing the results until next week.
“We will do an official certification on Tuesday and cannot release hard numbers until we certify the results to the secretary of state,” Mark McCown, board member, said.
“It appears that from the unofficial results there will be a recount in the Coal Grove Council race. It is an automatic recount.”
Since that race is a multi-seat race, the board takes the votes of the candidate who came in fourth and anyone who finished below that to make the calculation to determine if there is a margin of one-half of one percent of those votes.
According to the unofficial results on election night two former council members and two new to the body took the top wins.
Eric Holmes, who was on council in the 1990s, took 21 percent of the vote. Former councilman Randy Wise took 19 percent of the vote. Bringing in 18 percent was Kimberly McKnight followed by Shawn McDaniel and Nick McKnight with 14 and a half percent of the votes.
The recount will take in the votes of all six candidates who ran for the four seats.
