HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — For some students and parents, back to school may bring some stresses, including purchasing school supplies.

United Way of the River Cities and Ohio University Southern Campus are partnering for the third annual Stuff the Bus event. This year, the event will provide school supplies and other items for students in need.

Stuff the Bus is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following Walmart locations:

• Barboursville

• Route 60 in Huntington

• South Point

• Wayne

Each school system provided a list of needed items, and those lists will be distributed at each location the day of the event. Lists are also available at www.unitedwayrivercities.org/stuffbus.html.

Community members are asked to purchase items to help “stuff” a Tri-State Transit Authority (TTA) bus. Buses will be at each location.

“We are excited to have Ohio University Southern Campus and TTA help us further the goals of Stuff the Bus,” said Will Holland, United Way director of resource development. “There are students in each of these areas who need school supplies and other items for multiple reasons. We encourage the community to shop at Walmart on Aug. 10 and then pick out some extra items for a student who needs it. You are ensuring his or her success when you purchase these items.”

Those interested in helping with Stuff the Bus may do so in the following ways:

• Pre-event donations may be made prior to Aug. 10. Designated donation boxes and item lists will be available in participating Walmart locations.

• Join United Way and its partners on Aug. 10, shop at Walmart and make a donation to help stuff the bus.

• Monetary donations will be collected the day of the event to purchase items for students in need.

• One-to-two-hour volunteer shifts are available. Volunteers will help collect purchases outside of the store, sort the items for distribution and assist with the delivery of items to their final destinations. To volunteer for the event, sign up at www.unitedwevolunteer.org.
