Kansas guard transferring
to play for Ohio Bobcats
ATHENS (AP) — Guard Rio Adams, who spent his freshman year on the bench at Kansas, is transferring to play at Ohio University.
The Seattle native played in 24 games for the Jayhawks during the 2012-13 campaign, averaging 1.1 points and 3.5 minutes per game behind a veteran backcourt that also included star guard Ben McLemore.
Adams will sit out the 2013-14 season and will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2014-15.
A former top-100 recruit, Adams averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game as a senior at Rainier Beach High.
He chose Kansas over Arizona, California, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Texas, UCLA, Southern California, Washington and Washington State.
Blue Jackets ink goaltender
Bobrovsky to 2-year contract
COLUMBUS (AP) — The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky to a two-year contract extension, locking up the Vezina Award winner before he could become a restricted free agent.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen had termed re-signing the 24-year-old Russian as his top objective but the two sides had made little headway until just before the start of the NHL draft on Sunday.
Acquired from Philadelphia for draft picks last summer, Bobrovsky blossomed in Columbus. He had a 21-11-6 record with a 2.00 goals-against average, a .932 save percentage and four shutouts.
His stellar play fueled the Blue Jackets’ 19-5-5 finish that brought them close to a playoff spot.
2 Texas A&M players arrested,
suspended over bar fight
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Two Texas A&M football players were suspended Monday from team activities after being charged with misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief.
The school said Deshazor Everett and Floyd Raven will remain suspended pending further investigation, though they can continue their studies.
College Station police say the 21-year-old Everett and the 20-year-old Raven were charged after an April 7 fight at an apartment complex. Police say two people reported being attacked by a group that included Everett and Raven. Police say they both had visible injuries from the attack, and a car was damaged.
