St. Paul hosting day camp all week

It was nearly a decade ago that St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ironton began its Amazing Grace Day Camp as a, well, leap of faith.
Now in its 10th year, the annual event is hoping to attract more youth as it again opens its doors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. everyday this week through Friday. The camp is open to any child who will be in grades one through seven this fall.
The free event features games, crafts, Bible stories, camp songs, a full lunch, snacks and more. Everything is tied to this year’s theme of “Faith Alive.”
“We started this as a mission outreach to minister to kids,” said the Rev. David Ritchie, pastor at St. Paul. “It is done a lot in the rural areas … it is an attempt to get the Gospel to children who don’t hear the name of Jesus on a regular basis.”
Anyone interested can register at the church, located at the corner of Sixth and Center streets, in the fellowship hall.
“This is more than a vacation Bible school because we are here all day long,” Ritchie said.
