This track meet looked more like a logjam.

In a very competitive meet, the Fairland Lady Dragons won the Ironton Girls’ Invitational meet on Thursday.

Fairland had 118 points to finish ahead of runner-up Eastern Brown with an 89-point total.

Ironton was third with 56, Rock Hill and South Point tied with 55, Chesapeake had 51, Wheelersburg 42 and Portsmouth 41.

“It was good meet and a very competitive meet,” said Ironton coach Tim Thomas. “Fairland won pretty easy. They have good depth and they have excellent distance runners. Everybody else was jammed in there together pretty tight.”

Fairland used its distance running to rack up points.

Sydney Pettit wont the 1600 (5:56), sisters Shanon Ashton (12:50.8) and Megan Ashton (13:03) went 1-2 in the 3200, and Jessica Price won the 800 (2:41.2).

The Lady Dragons also used their distance runners to win the 4×400 and 4×800 relays.

Ironton’s Hannah Cronacher put together a busy and impressive meet. The Lady Fighting Tigers’ senior won the 200-meter dash with a 28.4 time, and she took second in the 200 at 13.7 and in the pole vault at 9-feet.

Rock Hill’s Maddie Malone won the pole vault by 9-3 and teammate Lexi Nelson was first in the shot put at 28-2.5.

South Point’s Elaine Gore won the 100-meter dash (13.4).

Chesapeake’s Tia Spaulding won the 300 hurdles (52.8) and was second in the high jump at 4-6.

Portsmouth will host its invitational on Friday.
