PEDRO — Maybe Rock Hill didn’t have the size or the strength, but the Redmen certainly had the grit.
The Redmen battled on the boards as they got past the Symmes Valley Vikings 54-46 on Tuesday.
“They’re a strong and physical team. We were able to hold our own with them on the boards and that was a big key,” said Rock Hill coach Dave Hopper.
“We played pretty well. That was probably our best game. We changed up our defenses and we made some adjustments during the game that helped.”
Austin Collins led the Redmen (6-11) with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Joey Stidham had 13 points and 4 steals.
Symmes Valley (9-8) was led by Austin Baldwin with 16 points and D.J. Miller scored 11.
Miller scored 5 points as Symmes Valley took a 9-7 first quarter lead.
Stidham, Collins and Layden Delawder scored 5 points each as Rock Hill rallied to take a 22-19 halftime lead. Baldwin scored 6 points in the quarter for the Vikings.
Baldwin had 8 more points in the third quarter as Symmes Valley pulled to within 32-31 at the end of the quarter.
But Collins scored 9 points including 5 of 6 from the foul line in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill sealed the win.
Symmes Valley won the earlier meeting 67-43.
On Friday, Symmes Valley visits Western and Rock Hill hosts Fairland.
