The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be out in force over the New Year’s holiday weekend as they plan for increased traffic from those out celebrating.
Lt. Anne Ralston, public affairs commander, said holidays have a tendency to be especially dangerous times for motorists.
“New Year’s is always a time that we have extra units working,” Ralston said. “We target impaired driving violations due to increased drinking and driving arrests and potential crashes.”
Ralston said those planning to drink should make sure they have a designated driver, use public transportation or plan to stay where they are for the evening.
“Make travel plans ahead of time in order to arrive home safely,” Ralston said. “Drivers are reminded to ‘Drive sober or get pulled over’ this New Year’s holiday.”
Ralston said the public should remember they can call #677 to report impaired drivers or drug activity.
