Viking duo top All-Ohio picks

Symmes Valley Vikings’ Alec Baldwin and Jacob Easthom were both named Wednesday to the Associated Press Division VI All-Ohio third team to lead 11 area honorees.

Herrell was a third team pick as a running back on offense while Easthom was third team defensive lineman.

Symmes Valley teammates Austin Baldwin, D.J. Miller and Tyler Rowe were named to the special mention list.

Green’s 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior lineman Kaden Sampson was also special mention.

In Division V, the Coal Grove Hornets led the area selections with four players named special mention including Alex Bare, Kyle Estep, Brandon Hogsten and Austen Pleasants.

Rock Hill’s 6-foot, 205-pound senior linebacker and running back Shane Harper was another All-Ohio special mention selection. The four-year starter led the team in tackles and rushing.

A 5-9, 180-pound senior, Herrell rushed 125 times for 1,318 yards and 17 touchdowns. Eastom — a 5-10, 240-pound junior — had 78 tackles, 12 for a loss, seven sacks and four fumble recoveries.

Miller — a 5-10, 175-pound junior — carried 98 times for 1,063 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. The 6-3, 205-pound Rowe played quarterback and linebacker. He ran 94 times for 622 yards.

Baldwin was an excellent blocker on offense and was the team’s leading receiver.

Bare — a 5-11, 165-pound senior quarterback — was 45 of 75 passing for 834 yards and seven touchdowns. He also ran 84 times for 468 yards and seven more TDs. As a defensive back, he had 40 tackles and four interceptions.

The 6-1, 175-pound Estep ran 122 times for 693 yards and six scores. The senior also had 42 tackles and three sacks on defense.

Hogsten — a 5-10, 185-pound senior fullback — rushed 95 times for 606 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Pleasants — a 6-7, 300-pound sophomore — started at guard and nose guard for the Hornets and was their most dominant lineman.
