Marietta Wilson

Marietta Grace Wilson, 80, of Ironton passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. The Mason County, Ky., native was born Nov. 11, 1931, the daughter of the late Leslie Grover Wilson and Grace Kirk Wilson. She is survived by her husband of 62 years James Allen Wilson whom she married April 2, 1950.

Marietta was a graduate of Higginsport High School and worked for the Lawrence County General Hospital for 25 years as a nurse’s aide. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Ironton. Marietta was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and the Marshall University basketball and football teams. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, reading books and writing poetry. Marietta volunteered at the Church of Christ Food Pantry, local nursing homes and at various church functions.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Shirley Wilson and Glen Wilson.

She is survived by (in addition to her husband), a son and daughter-in-law, David A. and Patricia Wilson of Huntsville, Ala.; daughter and son-in-law, Patty Wilson Anderson and Charles Anderson of Nashville, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy Wilson Blankenship and Ricky Blankenship of Hernando, Miss.; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Wilson Murphy and Tim Murphy of Towson, Md.; daughter and son-in-law, Kim Wilson Clark and David Clark of Collierville, Tenn.; sister, Olivette Wilson Corbett of Loveland; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ with Ministers Todd Parsley and Mike Grose officiating. Private burial will follow in Shinkle Ridge Cemetery, Higginsport. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Donations may be made in Marietta’s name to the Church of Christ Food Pantry, 2503 South 10th Street Ironton, Ohio 45638. John D. Larsen, 52, of Ashland, Ky., died Sunday, Sept. 2, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Arrangements are pending at Brown Funeral Chapel.
