Jesse Holcom

Jesse L. Holcom, 89, of Haverhill, passed away Friday Aug.10, 2012, at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. The Scioto County native was born Jan. 3, 1923, the son of the late Green and Martha Johnson Holcom. He was the husband of Mona Frances Sparks Holcom whom he married October 1963 and who survives.

Jesse was a graduate of Beaver High School and retired in 1983 from Armco Steel as a crane operator after 37 years of service. He helped start the Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department and he was the first fire chief there. He was the former owner of J and M Campground and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a special friend, Henry Turner of South Webster and many wonderful neighbors and friends.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home with Elder Jimmy Eubert Blanton officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Burial Park. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

Ersel Salyers

Ersel Edward Salyers, 85, of Flatwoods Ky., died Thursday Aug. 9, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. He was the husband of Juanita Salyers, who survives. Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the Straight Creek Nazarene Church with the Rev. Gary Ersel Salyers officiating. Burial will follow at Kirby Flats Cemetery Route 5. Samuel Leffingwell

Samuel Leffingwell, 53, of Pedro, died Friday, Aug.10, 2012, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.

Gloria Ferguson, 72, of Ironton, died Saturday Aug. 11, 2012, at Sanctuary of Ohio Valley in Ironton. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Tracy Brammer – Monroe Funeral Home.

 

Jane West

Gwendolyn “Jane” Stafford West. 86, of Wurtland, Ky., died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 at the Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of Ernie West, who survives. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Melvin officiating. Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
