Ashland Youth ballet to have intensive dance experience
ASHLAND, Ky. — The Ashland Youth Ballet will offer a dance intensive Aug. 6 – 10 at its new studio space, 13th and Carter Avenue in Ashland, Ky.
Dawn Hillen, a freelance teacher/choreographer/dance coach, will be on hand to work with the company and other local dancers interested in an intensive experience.
Ms. Hillen has an extensive biography and teaches at well-known New York schools such as Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Centre. During the week, participating dancers will also be instructed in healthy living practices, injury prevention, and personal safety by Anna Clark, dietician; Dr. Andy Gilliland, sports medicine; and Phil Clark, Phil Clark’s Martial Arts. Soccer Officiating Classes offered at SSU
PORTSMOUTH — A 25-hour class in soccer officiating, as required by the Ohio High School Athletic Association, is being offered at Shawnee State University beginning Monday, Aug. 20.
The classes will cover rules, regulations and mechanics and consist of classroom and on-field training. An online state test will be given at the conclusion of the class and a score of 75 is required to pass.
Those passing the test will be eligible to officiate high school soccer contests during the Fall 2012 soccer season. The license must be renewed annually. After registering online, the OHSAA will supply a soccer officiating textbook that will be sent to the instructor, Daniel Fetty.
Fetty, who just completed his 29th year as a soccer official, is the instructor. He has been rules interpreter, vice president and president of the Southland Soccer Association in Portsmouth. He also has completed sectional, district and regional tournament officiating throughout the state of Ohio.
The classes will be from 6:15 to 10:15 p.m. for two weeks on Monday, Thursday and Friday, Aug. 20, 23, 24, 27, 30 and 31 at the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center, Room 116 at SSU.
The cost is $149 payable to SSU and $65 payable online to OHSAA at http://www.ohsaa.org. The cost includes instructional materials and test fee. Students who wish to take the class for one credit hour will pay regular tuition fees.
