A traffic stop Thursday in Ironton quickly turned into a drug bust.
Stanley Carter 34, of 608 S. Eighth St., Ironton, was arrested and charged with possession of drugs. He was taken to the Lawrence County Jail.
In his report, Capt. Joe Ross said he and Patrolman Larry Large were on routine patrol when they allegedly spotted Carter driving a car. The officers believed Carter was driving with a suspended license because they dealt with him in another incident a few days earlier. Carter was pulled over.
“This officer then observed two females and Stanley Carter exit the vehicle,” Ross said in his report. “As Stanley Carter and one female walked down the sidewalk, officers pulled up to cite Stanley Carter for driving under suspension. A bag of cocaine was found on the sidewalk where Stanley Carter walked.”
Carter allegedly told officers he put the cocaine in his underwear but it must have fallen out, according to the police report.
The cocaine was field tested and determined to be cocaine weighing 3.5 grams.
Carter was arraigned Thursday in Ironton Municipal Court. Judge O. Clark Collins set bond at $5,000 and scheduled a May 17 preliminary hearing. Collins appointed John Kehoe to represent Carter. He remains in the Lawrence County Jail.
