Tips from concerned citizens and police work have led to the arrests of a two juveniles in connection with several incidents of vehicle vandalism last week in the south end of town.
Ironton Police Det., Capt. Chris Bowman, said the 15-year-old boy and 17-year-old boy now face multiple counts of vandalism. One was arrested May 3, one day after the vandalisms were reported; the other was arrested Monday morning.
“They really didn’t offer an excuse,” Bowman said. “They said they had been drinking.” Bowman said he did not know if the boys will also be charged with underage consumption of alcohol as well as the other charges.
The cases against the boys are now pending in Lawrence County Juvenile Court.
“People called in lots of tips and we went out and investigated,” Bowman said of the arrests.
The arrests come after numerous complaints May 1 and 2 of “men on cars” smashing windshields in the 2500 and 2600 blocks of South Sixth, Seventh and Eighth streets. One victim even reported finding a boot print on the hood of his car the day after the alleged vandalism.
