IPD lays off three officers

The Ironton Police Department is three officers short today. Police Chief Jim Carey said Tuesday, he gave layoff notices to two officers; a third, Patrolman Grover Carter, took a voluntary layoff. Patrolmen Chad Artip and Jamie Pruitt were given layoff notices that are effective today.
Mayor Rich Blankenship said one public works employee, Mark Weber, has taken a voluntary layoff.
One firefighter, Larry Pernestti, accepted a position in another city. Fire Chief Tom Runyon said no one else in his department has been laid off.
Meanwhile the city and all three unions that represent police, fire and public works continue to negotiate contracts.
