A Lawrence County mission organization is planning a golf scramble to help pay for medicines that will be taken on an upcoming mission trip to Peru.
The golf scramble, organized by Jeremiah 38 Ministries, will be May 26 at Diamond Links Golf Course in Boyd County, Ky.
It will begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch followed by a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. Lunch will be provided by Texas Roadhouse with desserts provided by the Oakland Chapel Church. This is the first of three events to help fund an upcoming mission trip to Peru.
Donna Bowling, who is helping organize the trip and the golf scramble, said 16 area volunteers will make a 10-day mission trip to Peru June 8.
Medical professionals making the trip will conduct a clinic; the group will also provide child care, help build needed items for an orphanage and help spread the Gospel to the people there. Bowling said the group has taken mission trips in the past and has come away with a thankfulness for their own circumstances and a determination to help others not only spiritually, but physically as well.
“We are so blessed in this country, so very blessed to have everything we do,” Bowling said.
The group is also taking another mission trip to Honduras in August.
Other fundraisers will be a 5K run being planned for July and another golf scramble being planned for August.
Diamond Links is at 200 Fairway Drive, off State Route 3 in rural Boyd County.
The cost to take part in the golf scramble is $65 per person. Those who want to participate may call 643-0282 or 643-2727 or simply show up the day of the scramble.
