FRANKLIN FURNACE — What’s in a name? Plenty if you’re Caleb Johnson.

Green coach Dan McDavid said his sophomore pitcher lived up to his nickname as the Bobcats beat the South Point Pointers in five innings 14-4 on Tuesday.

Johnson gave up six hits, struck out four and walked two to get the win.

“His nickname is ‘Bulldog’ and he lived up to it. He pitched like a bulldog out there tonight,” said McDavid. “We played well. We played well as a team again.”

The Bobcats (7-3) had 10 hits with Chris Applegate going 2-2 with three runs batted in, Adam Riffitt 2-3 with a double and two RBI and Colton Brammer 2-4 with two RBI.

Green took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Mike Avery walked, Applegate reach on an error, Rob Applegate hit into a fielder’s choice, and Brammer had a two-run singled after the Applegate brothers pulled off a double steal.

The lead went to 6-0 in the second when Riffitt walked, Johnson reched on an error, Avery and Chris Applegate walked for a run, Rob Applegate had a two-run singled and Cody Bruce a sacrifice fly.

The Pointers got a run in the top of the third when Austin Majher reached on an error and Josh Lien and Austin Jeffreys singled.

The Bobcats answered with two in the bottom of the inning when Steve Ratcliff singled and Johnson, Avery and Chris and Rob Applegate all walked.

Four more runs scored in the fourth to make it 12-1.

Brammer and Riffitt singled and Matt Howard walked to load the bases. Johnson singled in a run and Chris Applegate singled home two more.

South Point got three runs in the fifth when Majher reached on an error, Trey Kearns and Jeffreys walked, Alex Whitt had an RBI single and Brandon Boggs a two-run single.

Green ended the game in the bottom of the inning when Bruce doubled, Ratcliff walked and Riffitt lined a two-run walk-off double.
