SCOTTOWN — A 61-year-old Scottown man remains the focus of a search by county law enforcement agencies Saturday, more than four days after his family last saw him.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the family of Charles Shoemaker, of 371 State Route 218, on Thursday.
“(We were) advised that Mr. Shoemaker had left the residence on Tuesday about 9 a.m. on foot and was last seen in the back of the residence walking up a hill,” Sheriff Jeff Lawless.
Sheriff’s deputies, the Rome Volunteer Fire Department and the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department searched the area for a short time Thursday evening until storms ended the effort for the night.
The search resumed Friday morning with officers on foot and on 4-wheelers. Shoemaker was still missing as of 6 p.m. Saturday.
“We are concerned for him and hope he is located soon,” Lawless said.
Shoemaker is 5-foot-6-inches tall, weighing 120 pounds with grey hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a red jacket and brown rubber boots. This is at least the seventh time the man has been reported missing. The last two times he was located in Huntington, W.Va.
“Our search area could extend into other agencies and Huntington Police have been notified,” Lawless said.
Anyone with any information should contact the sheriff’s office at (740) 532-3525.
