Mildred Martin

ORMOND BEACH, Fla.— Mildred Maxine Gullett Martin, 83, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Salyersville, Ky., daughter of the late Jesse Penix and Bryon Gullett. She was of Baptist faith and a member of East End Baptist Church in Marion, Va. A loving mother, sister, and friend to all she met. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Martin, son, Ray Martin, and brothers, Marvin and Mirel Gullett.

She never remarried and worked hard to raise her kids on her own. Survivors include son, Don (Kathy) Martin of Indiana; daughters Sandie Martin of Daytona Beach Fla., Helen (Jerry) Simpson of Johnstown, Ohio, Joyce (Donnie) McCormick of Marion, Va., and Connie (Jamie) Reed of Ormond Beach; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a very special sister, Emma (Jim) Turley of South Point, Ohio whom she loved dearly and two special nephews, Matthew (Kristie) Dillon, and Shawn (Shawna) Dillon. She is also survived by three half brothers, Harold, James and Odell; and two half-sisters Louise and Annabel, all of the Ironton, Ohio area. She loved to sew and crochet, every stitch was made with love for her family.

Funeral services and interment were conducted at Garden of Memories in Muncie, Ind., on February 13. Officiating the service was Pastor Matthew Dillon.

 

Paul Herrell

KITTS HILL — Paul H. Herrell, 67, of Kitts Hill, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was born Aug.18, 1944, in Lawrence County. He was the son of Rex and Doris Massie Herrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Davis.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda Roach Herrell; a son, Tony (Deana) Herrell; a daughter, Melanie (Wayne) Taylor all of Kitts Hill; four sisters, Donna Lipker, Georgia (Carlos) Willis, Kay (Donnie) Myers, Lois (Lee) Cade; a brother, Garold (Lois) Herrell and a brother-in-law, Carl Davis; five grandchildren, Sara (JD) Gore, Jessi Herrell, Sasha (Brandon) Fields, Meghan and Mckayla Herrell; four great grandchildren, Brant and Brynlie Gore, Lexi Wheeler, and Lydia Fields.

He attended Waterloo School and was serving his second term as Lawrence County Commissioner. He served on the Lawrence County School Board, the Symmes Valley School Board and the Lawrence County Fair Board. He was a member of New Zion Church and his greatest passion was serving Lawrence County.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at The Ohio University Southern Campus Auditorium 1804 Liberty Av. Ironton with the Rev. Darrell Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Aid Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service in the auditorium. Pallbearers will be J.D. Gore, Brandon Fields, Jim Herrell, Mike Carrico, Albert “Mouse” Childers, Gene Myers, Doug Cade, Darren Cade, and Rick Roach. Pearl Tinkham

ORIENT — Pearl Belcher Tinkham, 98, formerly of South Point, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at her home in Clark Lakes, Orient.

Pearl was born Aug. 25, 1913, in Clearfork , W.Va., a daughter of the late H.L. Belcher and Lillie Lester Belcher Cain. She was a homemaker and charter member of Lockdale Church of God. She was also a member of the Burlington Sewing Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, the Rev. Arthur J. Tinkham, Jr; an infant daughter, Joan Wray; brothers, Abner, Eddie, and Jim Belcher; sister, Velvia Jenkins; son-in-law, Larry Andes; and sister-in-law, Mildred Belcher.

Pearl is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Les and Margaret Tinkham of Salt Rock, W.Va.; daughter and her fiancé, Susie Andes and Dennis Stuckert of Clark Lakes, Orient; one granddaughter, Cynthia Bjerklie and husband, Steve of Franconia, N.H.; grandsons, Frank Abrams of Columbus, Greg and Steve Abrams of Orient; great granddaughters, Amanda and husband John Ford of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Lillie Abrams of Columbus; great grandsons, Brandon, Christopher, and Ashtin Abrams; great great grandsons, Jonathan Ford; and great great granddaughter, Charlotte Ford; sister, Jewelle Tyndall of Baltimore, Md.; sister-in-law, Lois Belcher of Honolulu, Hawaii; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of good friends.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with Pastor Cecil Lester officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Linda Harr-Mefford

GREENUP, Ky. — Linda Carol Harr-Mefford, 54, of Greenup, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012. She was the wife of Kevin Dale Mefford, who survives. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Russell with Pastor Ken Gowin officiating Burial will follow at East Carter Memory Gardens in Grayson.
