Hornets top Devils 64-52

COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Hornets made “13” a lucky number.

The Hornets beat the Deming (Ky.) Black Devils 64-52 Saturday to improve their season record to 13-5.

Conor Markins and Bryan Steele scored 19 points each to lead the Hornets while Kyle Estep had 14 points.

Coal Grove was 22 of 29 from the line with Markins converted 12 of 15 free throw attempts. The Hornets were 20 of 48 from the floor for 41.7 percent.

Calvin Schalch had 24 points and Jonathan Pilosky 19 for Deming (7-18).

Coal Grove led 16-8 at the end of the first quarter and it was 22-20 at the half. The Hornets then blitzed the Black Devils 20-8 in the third quarter to lead 42-28.

The Hornets host South Point Friday.
