Courthouse doesn’t need to be Fort Knox

I read with interest the article about the security at the Lawrence County Courthouse.
The only security the other courthouses have is when you go to court.
I have been to other courthouses and they don’t strip search you to go pay your taxes, get car titles, etc.
But, as usual, Lawrence County overkills everything they do.
I don’t know how much money these guards make but we only need a guard when there is a trial at the courthouse. After the trial or court is over, send the guard home. This is just wasted money.
I can remember when I went to the courthouse and there were benches filled up with men chewing the fat and trading knives.
Another thing, why doesn’t everyone have to go through the security? A lot of people have their own private entrance. Do we need that? I think not.
If you work for the public why should you get special treatment. I don’t expect it and neither should they.

Community support allows City Mission to serve
I would like to take this time to say thank you to all of the individuals, churches, businesses, civic groups and schools who helped the mission during the months of November and December.
The mission has been helping people in our community for 67 years. Many times the mission is called the Ironton City Mission and some may think that we only help those in the city of Ironton but that is not so; we help all of Lawrence County.
On Thanksgiving Day we served a total of 735 meals to those in need. During Christmas we gave food baskets to 666 families and toys to 1,175 children. We could not do this without a caring community who believes in what we are doing.
Although the mission is well known for helping people during Thanksgiving and Christmas, the truth is we are here every day of the year helping those in need.
We operate a night shelter. We serve a lunch Monday through Friday at 11:am. We give out clothing twice a month; always on the second and fourth Wednesdays at 8:45 a.m. We give furniture to those in need every week, just to name a few and all of our services are without cost for anyone.
There is no way any one person or church could do all this alone. I am so thankful for those who help us not only at Thanksgiving and Christmas but those who help us monthly to meet the needs of others. God bless each of you in this new year.
