CHESAPEAKE — The South Point Lady Pointers know the value of a team roster.

Starter Aundrea Bradburn was missing due to an illness and starters Allison Mitchell and Erin Dillow sat out most of the first half in foul trouble.

But the Lady Pointers turned to their other players to produce a 53-49 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers on Monday.

“We were down three starters for most of the first half, so we needed people to keep us in the game and they did it,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams.

“(Eryn) Khounlavong carried us early and Lakin (Adams) and Bonnie (Hileman) came in and gave us big minutes.”

Khounlavong made the biggest contribution by scoring a career-high 15 points — all in the first quarter — as South Point took a 19-8 lead. Adams and Hileman came off the bench to combine for 10 points.

Amanda Ruffner scored 9 points in the second quarter as Chesapeake got within 27-24 at the half. Abbey Winkler and Brianna Whaley each hit 3-pointers in the quarter for South Point.

The third quarter was a scoring battle between Ruffner who scored 11 points and Mitchell who had 10 points and the Lady Pointers’ lead was 39-36.

Ruffner had 9 points to get Chesapeake within 51-49 in the fourth quarter. With time running out, Chesapeake tried to lop an inbounds pass to Ruffner but Dillow tipped the ball away and raced to the other end for a layup to seal the win.

Mitchell led South Point (10-4, 6-1) with 20 points.

Ruffner had a game-high 34 points to lead the Lady Panthers (10-5, 3-4).
