Ironton police have charged a Cliff Street man with felonious assault after he allegedly cut his wife’s throat with a machete during a domestic dispute Friday at their residence.

Alexander Ferreira, 30, of 615 Cliff St., was taken to the Lawrence County Jail, where he remains. He is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in Ironton Municipal Court before Judge O. Clark Collins.

Police were alerted Friday by a doctor at Our Lady Of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky., that a woman had been brought to the emergency room with a throat wound she said came from a machete; the doctor told police the woman said her husband had injured her.
