One basket counted for much more

The basket did not even factor into the outcome of the game but the two points scored by Isaiah Adkins counted for far more than can ever be measured by a scoreboard.
Last Friday the South Point Pointers and the Rock Hill Redman came together for a boys high school basketball game that was truly larger than just a sporting event.
This game was part of what was called “A Night for Isaiah,” a fundraiser and charity event for the 7-year-old boy with Niemann-Pick disease.
For one night, Isaiah was a member of the team, got to score a basket and made memories he’ll never forget.
This was put together by the South Point student council and truly embraced by coaches, players and fans for both teams.
The event raised more than $5,000 for Isaiah’s family.
Lawrence County loves it sports. School spirit runs deep and sometimes divides our community to a point.
This was a case where it brought us together.
Everyone involved should be commended for their efforts to make a little boy’s dreams come true. For their effort we recognize all involved with this week’s “Good News, Good Neighbor” spotlight.
Sometimes a sporting event is given too much weight and we forget that it is just a game. And, sometimes, the game is actually far more than that.
