Chesy, Proctorville hold swearing-in ceremonies

CHESAPEAKE — The villages of Chesapeake and Proctorville have almost gotten all of their newly elected personnel on board.

On Tuesday Chesapeake Mayor-elect Dick Gilpin and new council members, Kenneth Wolfe and Tracy Henson, were sworn in at city hall by Magistrate D.L. McWhorter.

This was Gilpin’s second term as chief administrator of the village. Newcomer to politics Tracy Henson lead the ticket in November with Kenneth Wolfe getting the second highest number of votes. Wolfe has served on council previously, but stayed out a term before running this year.

Also sworn in was Peggy Houston, clerk-treasurer.

Last week Proctorville council members Dale Burcham and Lee Whitley were sworn in. Burcham won his second term on council in the fall; this was Whitley’s first time on council.

This week Clerk-Treasurer Darrell Legg will swear in Mayor-elect Rick Dunfee.

Small business workshop set for Jan. 12

The Southern Ohio Procurement Outreach Center will host a workshop on government contracting called “Learn All About Government Procurement.”

It will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Vinton County Development Department, 205 S. Market St., McArthur.

The registration fee is $5.

The workshop is designed to give business owners an overview of the government procurement process.

Topics discussed may be different ways counselors can help businesses expand their market to include local, state and federal buyers.

All small businesses considering expansion into the government contracting arena on the federal, state or local levels are encouraged to attend.

Topics will include necessary registrations, small business designations, contracting resources, details of the contracting process, finding opportunities, the bid process, subcontracting, and working with specific agencies. This is a perfect event for business owners and/or sales people looking for a refresher and for those businesses just getting into government contracting.
