PROCTORVILLE — A Proctorville man was scheduled to be arraigned today in Lawrence County Municipal Court following an incident at a branch of Ohio River Bank.

Robert Gorby, 57, of 58 Township Road 1057, Proctorville is facing a fifth degree felony theft charge.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. Monday a white male who was wearing a black jacket, red ball cap and blue jeans walked into the Rome Township branch of the bank, according to Lawrence Sheriff’s Office Detective Jason Newman.

“He walked over to a teller station, where there was no teller. There were nine stacks of bundled twenties in 500-dollar increments stacked up,” Newman said. “The male reached over the counter and took the whole stack and walked out.”

No one in the bank saw the money allegedly being taken, the detective said.

“They didn’t know what happened to the money until reviewing the (surveillance) tape,” Newman said.

Bank personnel told the detective they recognized the man as a customer who comes into the bank near the county fairgrounds on a daily basis. The detective and deputies went to Gorby’s house.

“We recovered $2,000 at his home,” Newman said. “It was wrapped still in the bundles and had the Ohio River Bank stamp on it.”

Currently Gorby is out on a $2,500 bond.
