PEDRO — This time the Rock Hill Redwomen got their engine to turn over early.
Shaking a bad habit of sluggish first halves, Rock Hill came out of the starting gate quickly en route to a 58-36 win over the Symmes Valley on Monday.
“We’ve been playing bad in the first half lately and then taking half off in the second half,” said Redwomen coach Alvin Carpenter.
“We knew they have some girls out sick and hurt, so we put an emphasis on getting out early. We got a lead but they played hard the whole game.”
Chelsea Harper and Tommi Butler had 6 points each in the first quarter as Rock Hill took a 21-6 lead.
Katie Johnson scored 8 points in the second quarter as the lead went to 35-18 at the half. Malenna Davis had 5 points for the Lady Vikings.
Johnson scored 6 more points in the third quarter as the lead grew to 45-25.
Johnson led Rock Hill (5-2) with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Chelsea Harper added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals.
Sarah Crabtree scored 10 for the Lady Vikings (4-3).
