GREENUP, Ky. — Local authors from across the Tri-State will gather Saturday at the McConnell House, in Wurtland for the Second Annual Showcase of Authors Christmas Special.
The free event begins at 10 a.m. and will continue until 4 p.m. where approximately 20 authors from Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia are expected to attend the event to sell and sign their works, according to Greenup County Convention and Tourism Commission Executive Director Bobby Allen.
He said the public is welcome to bring any works they have by the authors to have them signed.
Authors will mix and mingle with the crowd and will also have the opportunity to be entertained by a number of Civil War Era characters. Abraham Lincoln, Gen. Robert E. Lee, and a number of soldiers are among the characters who will be present.
Allen said this is the fourth author showcase the tourism commission has sponsored and the second right before Christmas.
“I personally appreciate the arts and I wanted to try to appreciate the arts in different ways and revolve that around tourism,” he said. “Not only did I want to incorporate all our great local authors and writers but I wanted to branch out and bring in authors and writers from all over the region.”
“We have a lot of great writers and authors and it was a way not only to showcase them but to introduce them to a new audience,” Allen said. “The reason we do this at the McConnell House is because its such a wonderful facility that needs to be showcased to the community and it’s a great backdrop for this event.”
Writers and authors include Nancy Allen, Susan Brown, David Chaltas, Anthony Hawkins, Jeffrey Hill, Leonard Hilley, Kathleen Kenney, Angela Lewis, Annetta Hite Molter, Karen Newman, Stacy Nelson, Kay Reid, Cathie Shaffer, Mary E. Shortridge, Jarrod E. Stephens, Patricia West, Col. Charles Dahnmon Whitt, and John Wright.
