An Ironton man apologized to his wife and court officials Wednesday for getting arrested on a breaking and entering charge.
Billy Ray Monroe, 48, of 1406 S. Ninth St., told Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge D. Scott Bowling he was sorry for breaking into a neighbor’s garage in August.
“I apologize to you and to the court and to my wife,” Monroe said. “I haven’t been the person I should be or could be. I have no idea what my problem was, I’m just sorry, your honor.”
Bowling sentenced Monroe to four years community control sanctions under intensive supervised probation (CCS/ISP) and ordered him to successfully complete a rehabilitation program at the STAR Community Justice Center.
Two West Virginia men arrested for having and burning stolen copper wire and stolen tools pleaded guilty Wednesday as well.
Christopher Collins, 27, of Ona, pleaded guilty to charges of receiving stolen property and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia.
In exchange for his guilty plea to those charges, one count of open burning and one count of prohibited acts were dismissed.
Bowling sentenced Collins to four years CCS/ISP and ordered him to pay $390 in restitution to the victim of the stolen tools.
He must also successfully complete a rehabilitation program at the STAR Community Justice Center.
Collins must also testify truthfully against one of his two co-defendants, Brian C. Hatcher, 22, of Hurricane, whose case is pending.
A third man arrested in connection with the incident also pleaded guilty to the same charges Wednesday. Michael D. Graybeal II, 24, of Huntington, received the same sentence as Collins.
All three men were arrested in late August Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies allegedly found the three men burning the coating off copper cables in an area off County Road 104 in Proctorville.
A search of their campsite uncovered tools that were stolen from Huntington as well as drug paraphernalia.
Also Wednesday, James D. Wood, 34, of Huntington, W.Va., pleaded guilty to one count of receiving stolen property (a 2000 Suzuki motorcycle). He was sentenced to four years CCS/ISP.
