PROCTORVILLE — Fairland coach Nathan Speed just had to get his team in the attack mode.

After a passive first half, the Dragons outscored South Point 46 to 30in the second half and beat the Pointers 69-49 on Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The Dragons trailed at the end of the first quarter and then managed to take a 4-point halftime lead.

“In the first half we were a little timid. We didn’t attack their zone defense. We told the players at halftime to attack more and we did,” said Speed.

Blaine Fuller and Evan Salyers were the beneficiaries of the aggressive offense. Fuller had 19 points and 13 rebounds while Salyers had 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Evan Maddox had 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the Dragons (3-0, 1-0).

South Point (2-3, 0-1) was just 19 of 52 from the field including 7 of 20 from behind the arc. Brandon Barnes had 14 points and Austin Jeffreys 10 to lead the Pointers.

“We wanted to focus on Barnes and Jeffries. We got a lot of help on defense and we talked a lot,” said Speed. “Defensively I though Eric Riley did a nice job Barnes.”

Jeffreys had 6 points in the first quarter as the Pointers took a 15-12 lead. Maddox had 6 for the Dragons.

Cody Midkiff had all 4 of his points in the second quarter as Fairland rallied to take a 23-19 halftime lead. The Pointers managed only 4 points in the quarter, all free throws by Barnes.

Fuller had 9 points and Salyers 8 in the third quarter as the Dragons pulled away to a 46-33 lead.

Salyers had 7 more points in the fourth quarter as Fairland added to its lead.

On Friday, Fairland is at River Valley and South Point hosts Chesapeake in OVC games.
