Mayor Rich Blankenship, seen with his children Emma and Joel, is sworn in Wednesday evening by Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Charles Cooper for his second term as Mayor of Ironton.

With two new members in place, Ironton City Council Thursday night fulfilled a charter requirement and organized itself for the new term. There were no surprises.

Council unanimously rehired Marta Leach as council clerk, the firm of Anderson and Anderson as city solicitors, Lawrence County Prosecutor J.B. Collier Jr., as city prosecutor and Kristen Martin as finance director.

Preceding the 7:30 p.m. organizational meeting, family and friends gathered at 4:30 p.m. to watch Lawrence County Common Pleas Presiding Judge Charles Cooper administer the oath of office to Mayor Rich Blankenship and the two new members of council, Phil Heald and Aaron Bollinger, who won their races in the Nov. 8 election.
