Purse snatcher case bound over to grand jury

IRONTON — He was pursued by four witnesses after he allegedly tried to snatch a woman’s purse and possibly kidnap her; his case will now be pursued by a Lawrence County Grand Jury.

The case of Gregory Scott Gannon, 21, of Ironton, was bound over to the grand jury last week after Ironton Municipal Court Judge O. Clark Collins found sufficient evidence to require it.

Gannon was arrested earlier this month after he allegedly tried to get into a woman’s car on the Bartram and Sons grocery store parking lot at South Sixth and Pleasant streets.

When the victim fought back, he allegedly grabbed her purse and ran but was chased by four bystanders who cornered him until police arrived.

Police arrested Gannon after reportedly pulling him out from under some bushes. The victim was not injured. Gannon remains incarcerated under a $200,000 bond.

Defendant gets prison on W.Va. drug plea

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — The government says an Atlanta man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after admitting he delivered drugs from Georgia to Huntington for distribution.

Prosecutors say 30-year-old Orlandus T. Clark was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court for conspiracy to distribute 28 grams of crack cocaine. He pleaded guilty in June.

According to Clark’s plea, he admitted participating in a drug trafficking organization from the summer of 2007 until the fall of 2010.

The defendant also acknowledged that he and other associates recruited Huntington residents to support their efforts by securing apartments or residences to prepare and distribute the drugs.

Prosecutors describe Clark as a career offender.
