Ethel Martin

Ethel Mae Martin 96 of Ironton, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at a local health care facility. The Greenup, Ky., native was born Feb. 1, 1915, the daughter of the late John and Anna McClaskey Easterling. She is preceded in death by her husband Louis Martin who passed away in 1964.

Mrs. Martin attended Ironton High School and was a core maker for the Dayton Malleable Iron Company for 27 years retiring in 1977. She was a member of the Elm Street Nazarene Church and attended the City Mission Church in Ironton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Gene Martin; four sisters, Cora Compton, Lucy Easterling, Nora Murphy and Goldie Bailey; and six brothers, Frank, Charles, Clarence, James, Everett and Robert Lee Easterling.

She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn and Todd Smith of Ironton, Betty Carte of Ironton, and Patricia Powell-Pruitt and Don of St. Peters, Mo; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Revs. Jeff Cremeans and Leon Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m until the time of service. To offer condolences to the family please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

Paul Davis

OCALA, Fla. — Paul Douglas Davis, 48 of Ocala, formerly of Scottown, passed away Nov. 12, 2011, in Gulfport, Miss. The Columbus native was born June 18, 1963, the son of Valerie Ann Stock Wilson and the late Lutrell Douglas Davis.

Mr. Davis was a 1981 graduate of Symmes Valley High School and also attended Collins Career Center. He was a truck driver for Celadon Trucking Co. for the past five years and also a former truck driver for C.R. England Trucking Co. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, John Robert and Rose Ivy Stock.

He is survived by mother and stepfather, Valerie Ann and Elmer “Pete” Wilson of Scottown; a sister, Suzanne Walker of Gallipolis; two nephews, Brian Lee Walker of Gallipolis and Christopher Ryan Walker of Ohau, Hawaii; his girlfriend and companion, Marcie Rowe of Ocala; close friends, Annie Kay, David, and Scott Harper of Delaware; and many numerous friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Darrell Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Linnville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service. To offer condolences to the family, please visist www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

Raymond Shears Jr.

PEDRO — Raymond Robert Shears Jr., 49, of Pedro, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. He was born Oct. 26, 1962, a son of the late Dianna Stamper Shears and Raymond Robert Shears Sr. of Kitts Hill. Raymond was a graduate of Rock Hill High School, carpenter by trade and of the Christian faith.

In addition to his father, he is survived by a son, Raymond Robert Shears III of Kitts Hill; two daughters, Tara Renee Shears of Ashland, Ky., and Sara Ann Mann; his stepmother, Christy Shears; three brothers, Steven Shears of Pedro, John Shears of Texas and Jamie Shears and his wife, Amy of Wheelersburg; and six grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mamre Cemetery with Pastor Rock Massie officiating. Brown Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

 

Warren Dean

DEERING — Warren (Buss) Dean Jr., 85, of Deering, died at home Sunday Nov. 20, 2011.

He was the husband of Betty Dean. Arrangements are pending at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home.

 

Lester Tackett

FLATWOODS, Ky. — Lester Tackett, 93, of Flatwoods, died at Oakmont Manor on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011. He was the husband of Sylvia Maxine Preston-Tackett, who survives. Funeral will be at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Brother Earl Marshall officiating. Entombment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland, Ky. with military honors by the VFW Post 8850 of Ironton. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

Elma Witherel

WILLOW WOOD — Elma Joyce Witherel, 59, of Willow Wood, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. There will be no services. Arrangements are by Hall Funeral Home.
