SOUTH POINT — All drivers are invited to tune up their driving skills, learn defensive driving tips and update their knowledge of rules of the road at an AARP Driver Safety Course Tuesday at the Briggs Lawrence County Public Library Southern Branch at 317 Solida Road, South Point.
The course begins at 10:30 a.m. and concludes by 3:30 p.m. with an hour lunch break. Registration begins at 10:15 a.m.
As a special November promotion, all military veterans and their spouses can attend this AARP Driver Safety Program free with a valid form of military identification such as a military ID card, dependent ID card, discharge papers (DD Form 214), or military organization card such as American Legion, VFW, or Amvets.
For drivers who are not veterans, the fee for the course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. Payment is due the day of the course in cash, check or money order made payable to AARP. AARP members must present their membership cards to receive the member rate. Visit the library or call (740) 377-2288 for information or to register.
The AARP Driver Safety Program is a classroom driver improvement course for all drivers but is specifically designed for those who are age 50 and older. This program, developed by the AARP, can sharpen driving skills, help prevent accidents and keep older drivers on the road longer and more safely.
For many people, the course can help them save money on car insurance. Ohio law permits auto insurance carriers to offer a discount on premiums to qualified graduates of the approved AARP class. Policyholders should contact their carriers for more information about such discounts.
