South Point Youth Soccer set for Kickin’ for a Cure IV

Event includes 5k Run and Walk

 

SOUTH POINT — South Point Youth Soccer League will host its fourth annual youth soccer tournament this coming weekend November 5th and 6th at the South Point Youth Soccer fields on CR1 in South Point. Along with the soccer tournament, the league is also hosting a 5k run/walk and family fun night.

The “Kickin’ for A Cure IV” tournament will host teams from Lawrence County Ohio, Scioto County Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. The tournament is a fundraiser for the local league and is a charity event to support the St. Mary’s Breast Center fund in Huntington, W.Va.

On Friday night Nov. 4 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. the South Point Youth Soccer League will kick off the tournament with a Family Fun night in the Old South Point High School gymnasium. As part of the event, the league will have inflatables, games, live music and food in the gymnasium.

A silent auction will also be held to benefit Beth Brown, a young child from South Point currently being treated for Leukemia.

A 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday morning Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. The run/walk will organize on Commerce Drive in front of the Chamber of Commerce and Post Office.

Cost to register for the event is $25 per person which guarantees the first 125 participants a raceT-shirt and goody bag. Anyone interested in participating in the event can register prior to the 8:30 a.m. on the morning of the event at the start/finish line on Commerce Drive or visit www.tristateracer.com to register on-line.

The soccer tournament will begin at 9am on Saturday morning and conclude late Sunday night. As part of the event, soccer players will be playing with pink lines painted on the fields of play and pink soccer balls. The goal of the event is to bring awareness to the public concerning Breast Cancer and the dangers surrounding breast cancer and to raise money for the St. Mary’s Breast Center Cancer Fund.

The soccer tournament has teams registered from the surrounding counties and surrounding states with Players range from age 5 thru 14.

A raffle is also being held during the event. The SPYSL is raffling off a 32 inch flat screen TV and a Nintendo DSI 3D. Tickets are $1 each and 6 tickets for $5.

The silent auction items and raffle tickets will be available for purchase and bidding at the SPYSL Fields at 2514 County Road in South Point throughout the tournament
