Billy Fairchild

CHESAPEAKE — Billy J. Fairchild, 88, of Chesapeake, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday Oct. 26, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, W.Va.

He was born June 12, 1923, in Martin County, Ky., son of the late William and Mabel Stark Fairchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Jean Hankins Fairchild; two brothers, Dencil and Glen Fairchild; and three sisters, Reba Jean Tordiff, Kathleen Goodner, and Susie Carr.

Billy is survived by one daughter, Donita (Charles) Cook; one son, James William (Marty) Fairchild; two grandchildren, Kiera Siebel and Jon (Michelle) Cook; one sister, Minerva (Kenny) Hughes; and two brother,s Kenneth (Phyllis) Fairchild and Paul (Mildred) Fairchild.

He was a member of Grace Gospel Church and a WWII army veteran.

Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home by Pastor Jerry Matt. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery Ironton, Ohio. Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

Charles Jenkins

PEDRO — Charles E. “Chalk“ Jenkins, 68, of Pedro, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at Community Hospice in Ashland, Ky. The Pedro native was born Oct. 31, 1942, a son to the late Vint and Evelyn (Jordan) Jenkins. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Hilda (Bailey) Jenkins.

Charles was a U.S. Army veteran and enjoyed serving his country. He worked as a maintenance worker at Lonestar Cement and Osco Industries for many years before retiring in 1995. Charles was a born again believer in Jesus Christ. He also loved spending time with his friends and family. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and reading.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by two daughters and son-in-laws, Christine and Walter Nelson and Jan and Bill Gullett both of Pedro; five sisters, Barb Bailey and Nancy Hall both of Ironton, Hazel Donley of Kennesaw, Ga., Delpha Bloomfield of South Point and Judy Bailey of Pedro; four brothers, George Jenkins, Alonzo Jenkins, Johnny Jenkins all of Pedro and Clifford Jenkins of Ironton; two grandchildren, Madison and Charles Chase Nelson both of Pedro and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a brother, June Jenkins and a sister, Lucille Jenkins.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lawrence Furnace Cemetery with military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 8850. Pastor Greg Frasure will be officiating. The procession will form at the Tracy Brammer – Monroe Funeral Home beginning at 10a.m. and will depart at approximately 10:30 a.m. Following the graveside services the family invites friends and family to Etna Baptist Mission Church Fellowship Hall for a dinner and a time of remembrance celebrating the life of Chalk Jenkins. Carl Watson

Carl Franklin Watson, 44, of Ironton, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at his home.

The Huntington, W. Va., native was born Nov. 27, 1966, the son of Mary Ann Julian Watson of Coal Grove and the late Garland “Woody” Watson. He is also survived by his wife, Tammy Sue Messenger Watson.

Carl was a 1985 graduate of Dawson Bryant High School and a former carpenter.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a step-son, Cody Williams; a sister, Theresa Watson; paternal grandparents, Harold and Grace Watson and maternal grandparents, Patsy and Gladys Julian.

In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by a daughter, Karlie Sue Watson of Ironton.

Dorothy Harmon

COAL GROVE — Dorothy Harmon, 82, of Coal Grove, passed away Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at a local health care facility. The Lawrence County native was born Feb. 23, 1929, the daughter of the late Troy and Martha Webb Zornes. She was the widow of Clifford “Tip” Harmon, who passed away Oct. 23, 2010.

Dorothy was a graduate of Coal Grove High School, Ashland Business College and was a member of Zoar Baptist Church. She retired from AT&T, but started her career with The Bell Telephone Company in Ironton.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Harmon and two brothers, Troy Zornes Jr. and Archie Zornes.

She is survived by a niece, Jacqueline Zornes; nephews, Gary Moore, Troy Lee Zornes and Steven Zornes; great nephew, James E. Zornes II; great great niece, Samantha N. Zornes and a great great nephew, Jacob Elijah Zornes.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Beals officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Charles Whaley

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Charles Michael (Mickey) Whaley, 70, of Las Vegas, formerly of South Point, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011. Michael was the son of Louis and Bette Whaley of Ironton, who survive.

Ralph Thacker

PROCTORVILLE — Ralph Glen Thacker, 49, of Proctorville, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home.
