Accused murderer Charles Edens waived his right to a speedy trial during a pretrial conference Tuesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.
Edens, 22, of Huntington, W.Va., was scheduled to stand trial in the death of Auston James Wells on Nov. 22, but with his right to a speedy trial waived, Judge D. Scott Bowling set a pretrial conference for that date and will set a new trial date later on.
Bowling, also denied a request from Edens attorneys J.T. Holt and Michael Gleichauf to modify Edens’ bond from $250,000 cash or surety to $100,000 property.
Wells, 19, of Ironton, was shot to death Aug. 31 near the corner of Eighth and Madison streets in Ironton. Police have not released any information about a motive for the shooting or how the two men knew each other.
Edens remains in the Lawrence County Jail.
