SOUTH POINT — The South Point Pointers kept it close early, but fumbles and the quick-strike capabilities of Point Pleasant’s offense triggered the Big Blacks’ 49-6 win on Friday.

The Pointers’ defense forced a three-and-out to start the game and the offense drove deep into Point Pleasant territory. But a fourth down field goal attempt was batted down.

The Big Blacks recovered a fumble late in the quarter to set up a 27-yard scoring pass from Eric Roberts to Brandon Toler and it was 7-0.

After exchanging possessions, Austin Majher hit R.J. McCarty with a 37-yard scoring strike and the Pointers trailed 7-6 with 2:11 left in the half.

Pt. Pleasant went to its two-minute offense and scored on a 20-yard pass from Roberts to Layne Thompson and it was 14-7.

South Point fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Big Blacks recovered inside the 10-yard line. Two plays later Anthony Darst ran 7 yards for the score and a 21-6 lead at the half.

Pt. Pleasant took the second half kickoff and put together another scoring drive capped by Tylun Campbell’s 19-yard scoring run and it was 28-6.

The Big Blacks put the game out of reach with a 33-yard scoring burst by Campbell and a 13-yard scoring pass from Roberts to Darst for a 42-6 lead.

Zach Canterbury ran 7 yards with 3:20 left to complete the scoring.

The Big Blacks had 360 total yards including 270 on the ground. Tylun Campbell had 12 carries for 123 yards. Roberts was 7 of 9 passing for 90 yards.

South Point (1-3) was led by Tre’ Campbell with 25 carries for 87 yards.
