ASHLAND, Ky. — Mitchell McCalvin, 80, of Ashland, Ky., died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland. He is survived by his wife, Georgia Irene Coffey McCalvin.
He was born May 18, 1931, in Boyd County, Ky., to the late George McCalvin and Mary Click. He is also preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include three sons: Jeff and Missy McCalvin of Ashland, Ky., David and Teresa McCalvin of Ashland, Ky., and George and Cindy McCalvin of Ironton; one daughter, Debra McCalvin of Ashland, Ky.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Tommy, Sissy and Danny, Kyle and Deleena, Morgan and Ashley Lynn; three great-grandchildren, Trystan, Kegley and Gavins; two brothers: George Delbert and Doris McCalvin of Ashland, Ky. amd Glen Willis and Karen McCalvin of Flint, Mich.; three sisters: Katharine and Charlies Perfatter of Ashland, Ky., Edith and Rev. Fred Workman of Forrester, Ky., Judy and Hobert Hutchinson of Kenova, W.Va.
Thank you home health girls that came and took such good care of him during his illness.
He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was retired after 38 years as a mechanic/maintenance worker for Allied Chemical. He helped to build Williams Creek Community Church, where he was a lifelong member and a deacon. He became a Christian at age 14.
Funeral service was 1 p.m. Saturday at Williams Creek Community Church. Rev. Jeff Canfield, Rev. Fred Workman, Dr. David Bush and Pastor Rick Kitchen officiated. Burial followed at McCalvin Family Cemetery. Visitation was Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lazear Funeral Home.
