Douglas S. Martin, 68, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Aug. 28, 1942, the son of the late David and Virginia Rose Martin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Gray Martin, whom he married May 27, 1964.

Mr. Martin attended Coal Grove School and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of the VFW 8850 and a former employee of the Dayton Mallaeble Iron Company.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson: Stephen Bowman; two brothers: Emory Martin and David Martin Jr.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Rebecca “Becky” and John Friend of Ironton; a daughter: Virginia “Jenny” Friend of Ironton; a brother and sister-in-law: William “Stan” and Judy Martin of Ironton; five grandchildren: Kendra Friend of Pedro, Mary Friend, Austin Friend, Hailey Friend and Zachary Martin all of Ironton; three great-grandchildren: Allison (Bostic) Bowman of Ironton, Kaitlyn Friend and Hayden Schob both of Pedro.

Funeral services will be noon Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Bro. Jack Pemberton officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Furnace Cemetery with military graveside rites by the V.F.W. 8850. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
