SOUTH POINT — Betty Hughes, 76, of South Point, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Ky. She was born March 30, 1935, in Rock Camp, the daughter of the late Earl W. and Letha (Bazell) Dickess. She was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and was employed by Ashland Oil as an administrative assistant until she retired in 1993 after 38 years of service. She also enjoyed extensive travel abroad as well as cooking and baking for the family.

Betty is survived by her husband William E. Hughes whom she married on July 13, 1989; one son, Steve (Angie) Walker of South Point; stepdaughter, Brenda (Terry) Gullett of Ashland; six grandchildren, Kasey Walker, Dagon Wise, Cody Walker and Alex Walker, all of South Point, and Clayton Gullett and Garrett Gullett, both of Ashland; and one great grandson, Aiden Hawkey of Ashland.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with Pastor Brad Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
