UNION TOWNSHIP — A Chesapeake man was arrested but then hospitalized last week after leading two law enforcement agencies on a chase after he allegedly hit and bit another man and scared area residents.
Joseph M. McDonald, 20, of 40 Township Road 185, was charged with criminal trespass and assault.
According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Steve Sisler was dispatched to County Road 3 June 21 after callers complained that a naked man with blood all over him had entered several residences but then ran and jumped into the Ohio River. It was later reported that McDonald had jumped out of the river and into the back of a pickup truck headed toward Proctorville. Then he jumped out of the truck was apprehended by Proctorville Police Sgt. Michael Vaden, who stated that McDonald was “talking out of his head,” according to the sheriff’s office report. At one point, McDonald sat in the back of a police cruiser banging his head against the glass, Sisler’s report said.
“I asked him where he was and he advised he didn’t know,” Sisler said in his report. “I asked him what he was on and he said K-12 and it’s awesome.”
McDonald was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va., for treatment.
