Worst area for illegal dumping, county official says
PERRY TOWNSHIP — Crabtree Hollow has a dubious distinction. With its wooded hillsides and close proximity to U.S. 52 and the Ashland-Coal Grove bridges, it is particularly susceptible to littering and illegal dumping.
“It is absolutely one of the most polluted areas of Lawrence County,” Lawrence County Solid Waste District Director Dan Palmer said of the road. It is not uncommon, he said, to find old furniture, tires and other automobile parts strewn alongside the roadway.
“You’ll see everything there,” Palmer said.
That’s why his office and Perry Township trustees are joining forces at 9 a.m. Thursday to close the road and clean up the illegal dumps and litter. Palmer said Lawrence County Municipal Judge Donald Capper is sending a crew of community service workers and the township trustees are doing the same.
“We hope people take note of what we’re doing and start respecting their community. There is no excuse for this (littering and illegal dumping),” Palmer said.
The road will remain closed until the work is done.
