Fathers are important, too.
That’s the message behind a Father’s Day celebration noon-3 p.m. Friday at the Workforce Development Resource Center, 120 N. Third St., Ironton. It is sponsored by the Department of Housing and the Urban Development and the Lawrence County One-Stop.
“The reason we are having this celebration is to promote healthy parenting and showing fathers that their communities support them,” Trish Johnson, special programs coordinator for the Workforce Development Resource Center, said. “As a One-Stop we have a lot of resources for the community for helping people with training and equipping them with help in finding employment. Being a part of Community Action Organization we are a part of a great organization that has many resources for families to get help. As Father’s Day is approaching it is a great way to have a day for fathers to come out with their kids, and gain knowledge on what resources are out there to benefit their families.”
On hand will be several local community agencies such as Lawrence County Community Action, local health departments, Huntington Business College, ACTC and WIC. Johnson said there will also be fun, games, food and different activities.
