One-mile chase lands man in jail
SOUTH POINT — A Coal Grove man is behind bars this morning after he tried to outrun Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers and crashed his motorcycle.
Steven K. Holmes, 57, of Coal Grove, is charged with failure to comply with the order and signal of a police officer, operating a motor vehicle while impaired, weaving and failure to control a motor vehicle. He was taken to the Lawrence County Jail.
According to information from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a trooper tried to stop a motorcycle for lane violations near the intersection of Lick Creek Road and U.S. 52 early Sunday morning. But when the trooper activated his lights, the motorcyclist fled westbound on U.S. 52 and turned into County Road 276 (Crabtree Hollow).
The motorcyclist led the trooper on a roughly one-mile chase before losing control and going off the right side of the road, according to the patrol. Holmes was arrested at the scene.
