PEDRO — George Sparks, 70, of Pedro, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2011, at his residence.
The Colie, Ky., native was born Sept.17, 1940, the son of the late Woodrow Wilson Sparks and Gladys Howard Sparks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Friend Sparks, who passed away March 4, 1992.
Mr. Sparks attended Bartles and Pedro schools. He was a former employee for the Collins Mining Company and AF Industries and loved to go fishing.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Sparks and Ricky Lee Sparks.
He is survived by three daughters, Connie Sue Sparks and her fiance’ Roger Williams, Bonnie Lou Sparks and her fiance’ Terry Miller and Marlene Thomas and her fiance’ Alvin Jenkins all of Pedro; three sons, George Sparks Jr. of Pedro, Wesley Sparks and his fiance’ Tanya Scarberry of Huntington, W.Va., and Jeffery and Debra Sparks of Ironton; two daughters-in-law, Marlene Ann Sparks and Tammy Sparks both of Pedro; four brothers, Jimmie Sparks and Danny Sparks both of South Webster and Woody Sparks and Mark Sparks both of Pedro; four sisters, Lillian Sizemore and Marge Hankins both of Marion, Sally “Sis” McCroy of Minford, and Darlene Pruitt and Delphine Price both of Pedro; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Blagg officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Furnace Cemetery. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
