Della Mae (Wolfe) Irwin

FLATWOODS, Ky. — Della Mae (Wolfe) Irwin, 85, died May 24, 2011, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. For the past eight years, she had resided at Trinity Station Retirement Community in Flatwoods.

She was born April 30, 1926, in Pike County, Ky., the daughter of the late Silas Dean and Grace Williamson Wolfe. She was also preceded in death by her husband Harvey Irwin Jr. and brother Dean Wolfe Jr. Della is survived by one daughter Paula Dorene Irwin of Madison, Ala.; one brother and sister-in-law Laurence and Virginia Wolfe of Proctorville; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

At the age of 18 during World War II, Della answered the call for clerical workers at the nation’s capital. After 40 plus years working in the Pentagon and with the FBI, she retired from the U.S. Department of Treasury in Washington, D.C. Della then relocated to Johnson County, Ky., to be close to family.

She was a member of the Paintsville United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star.
A memorial service will be held Friday, at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
