Man allegedly pushes way into senior’s home
An 18-year-old man was arrested Saturday after Ironton police say he forced his way into an elderly woman’s home and stole $1.
Seth D. Coleman, of 918 Adams St., Ironton, allegedly pushed his way into the home of a 95-year-old woman in an apartment in the 700 block of Washington Street.
According to the police report, the man knocked on the woman’s door around 8 p.m. that night and, when she opened it, pushed past her into the apartment. He allegedly asked for money, then took one of two $1 bills from her kitchen table.
The man reportedly told the woman that if she did not scream, he would not hurt her.
The woman was not injured.
“People need to remember to keep their doors locked and see who it is before they open the door,” IPD Chief Jim Carey said. “He had already opened her screen door. It’s important to keep those (screendoors) locked.”
Coleman was arraigned for aggravated burglary Monday in Ironton Municipal Court. He pleaded not guilty.
Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety. Coleman is due in court again Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
