The Ironton Police Department has arrested a second man for a series of car break-ins that occurred earlier this week.
Zachary Carey, 18, of 129 Private Drive 308, Ironton, was arrested and charged with theft. Police arrested Travis Pennington, 22, of 1310 N. Third St., Ironton, Tuesday for the crime as well.
Ironton Police Chief Jim Carey said batteries from four cars on Karin and Charlotte streets in north Ironton were stolen Monday night. The night before, on Sunday night, batteries were taken from three cars in the 1500 block of South Third Street.
Chief Carey said the men apparently transported the car batteries from house to house with a wheelbarrow during the night in the north end of town. Police found six batteries that had been stashed in the grass by the city’s floodwall at Storms Creek, Chief Carey said.
