ASHLAND, Ky. — A woman is being treated for injuries received when she jumped into the Ohio River from Ashland’s 13th Street Bridge Sunday night in an apparent suicide attempt, said Major Todd Kelley of the Ashland Police Department.
The APD is not releasing the name of the 54-year-old Ashland woman who was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
Kelley said one motorist on the bridge and at least two people at the city’s riverfront park witnessed the woman plunge 70 feet from the bridge into the river Sunday evening.
Ashland firefighters used a rescue boat to save the woman, who was in the water about 15 minutes before she was pulled out approximately a half mile from where she jumped in, Kelley said.
The woman, who showed signs of hypothermia, was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center and later transferred to St. Mary’s Medical Center for trauma, Kelley said.
