SOUTH POINT — The South Point Lady Pointers know the value of patience.

Despite getting eight walks, the Lady Pointers found enough good pitches to hit as they beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 16-4 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“Coal Grove’s pitcher had some trouble finding the strike zone, but when we did find the right pitches we really connected and hit well,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Tara Layne.

“Coal Grove played very good defense tonight. I give them a lot of credit. They did a good job by putting the ball in play and making things happen out in the field.”

South Point (11-2, 5-1) spanked 15 hits with Ashley Goodall going 3-4 with a double and four runs batted in and Andrea Kleinman was 3-4 with a double and three RBI.

Rachel Murnahan was 2-4 with three RBI, Kayla Fletcher went 2-4 and Hannah Carey added a triple and drove in two runs.

Murnahan had a two-run single to highlight a four-run first inning and the Lady Pointers added three more in the second to lead 7-0.

Coal Grove got three runs in the third when Marissa Stevens singled, Kaitlyn Murphy reached on an error, Ashley Adkins walked and Kelsey Grove had a two-run double.

South Point got a run back in the fourth on hits by Kleinman and Kaitlyn Brown.

The Lady Pointers put the game out of reach with five runs in the fifth inning. Goodall doubled in a run, Murnahan singled in one and Carey tripled home two more.

In the sixth, South Point scored three times to end the game early. Three walks and hits by Goodall, Kleinman and pinch-hitter Aerial Boggs drove in the runs.

Brown got the win as she struck out six, walked three and gave up five hits.
